St. Nicholas visit to highlight busy"Polish Day" at Orchard Lake

A visit by St. Nicholas will highlight a busy schedule on "Polish Day" Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Orchard Lake St. Mary's schools. St. Nicholas will hand out treats and describe the ethnic customs of the holiday season at 2 p.m. in the Galeria on the schools' campus at Orchard Lake and Commerce roads in Orchard Lake.
St. Nicholas, who lived in the fourth century and was bishop of Myra in southwest Turkey, was known in his day for his good deeds to the poor and abandoned, especially to children. Today, he is more popularly known by his Dutch name, Santa Claus.
Here is a list of other activities:
 At 12 noon, the Orchard Lake Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 19 will sponsor a Bake Sale and Cookie Walk in the seminary dining hall. Call (248) 682-1885 for more information.
 At 1 p.m., mass in Polish will be celebrated in the shrine chapel. Polish American dinners will be available after mass in the campus dining hall ($10 adults, $5 children). In addition, the Galeria will feature an exhibit of drawings, watercolors and pastels by Fidelia Galuszewski, of Sterling Heights, and a display dedicated to Rev. Joseph Dabrowski, founder of the Orchard Lake Schools, whose centennial of death the Schools are observing this year.
 At 6:30 p.m., the Schools will hold its annual Christmas Concert in the shrine chapel. Admission is free.
