A
visit by St. Nicholas will highlight a busy schedule on
"Polish Day" Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Orchard
Lake St. Mary's schools. St. Nicholas will hand out treats
and describe the ethnic customs of the holiday season
at 2 p.m. in the Galeria on the schools' campus at Orchard
Lake and Commerce roads in Orchard Lake.
St. Nicholas, who lived in the fourth century and was
bishop of Myra in southwest Turkey, was known in his day
for his good deeds to the poor and abandoned, especially
to children. Today, he is more popularly known by his
Dutch name, Santa Claus.
Here is a list of other activities:
At 12 noon, the Orchard Lake Ladies Auxiliary Chapter
19 will sponsor a Bake Sale and Cookie Walk in the seminary
dining hall. Call (248) 682-1885 for more information.
At 1 p.m., mass in Polish will be celebrated in
the shrine chapel. Polish American dinners will be available
after mass in the campus dining hall ($10 adults, $5 children).
In addition, the Galeria will feature an exhibit of drawings,
watercolors and pastels by Fidelia Galuszewski, of Sterling
Heights, and a display dedicated to Rev. Joseph Dabrowski,
founder of the Orchard Lake Schools, whose centennial
of death the Schools are observing this year.
At 6:30 p.m., the Schools will hold its annual
Christmas Concert in the shrine chapel. Admission is free.
