Orchard Lake Ladies Auxiliary to salute
Helen Pett, "Woman of the Year," July 12

Helen Pett, of Allen Park, will be honored as the Orchard Lake Schools Ladies Auxiliary "Woman of the Year" Friday, July 12. A banquet at 5:30 p.m. will be held in the Schools' dining hall on the campus at Orchard Lake and Commerce roads in Orchard Lake. Tickets are $25. A native of Pennsylvania who has lived in the metro Detroit area since 1941, Pett is active in numerous Polish American organizations and activities. She has been involved in several fund-raising efforts on behalf of the Orchard Lake Schools, including the Ladies Auxiliary's annual Ladies Day Gala, which she chaired for two years, and is a long-time member of the committee. She and her husband, Edmund, are perpetual members of the Orchard Lake Ambassadors for the benefit of the Schools' endowment fund.
Pett currently is president of Nest 79 (Southgate) of the Polish Falcons, a national Polish American fraternal headquartered in Pittsburgh. She served for 20 years as a national director and received the Falcons' highest award, the "Gold Legion of Honor," in recognition of her service.
She represents the Falcons on the national board of the Polish American Congress and is a member of the Congress' Michigan Division. Pett is also the president of the Polish Activities League.
She is a member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish in Allen Park and belongs to the parish's Christian Mothers group and is a former Sunday School teacher.
She and her husband of 53 years are parents of James Pett, of Atlanta, Ga., and daughters, Kathlyn Wernette, of Northville, and Michelle Herrin, of Harrisburg, Ill. They have one grandchild.
