Book recounts
Polish WWII martyrs

It took five years of translating, writing, correcting, assembling and proofing, but Fr. Zygmunt Szarnicki (College '41), of Pittsburgh, has seen his latest work in print, "Polish Martyrs and Others Beatified: 1999-2000-2002." The 196-page book is divided into three parts. The first, and largest, is devoted to 109 Poles beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1999 and 2000. Beatified Members of the Sisters of The Holy Family of Nazareth comprise Part II, while Part III covers a handful of others who were beatified, including four on August 17, 2002 in Krakow. Fr. Szarnicki, who has seven earlier works published, says he wrote this book, among several reasons, to educate people about what the Poles suffered at the hands of Nazis and to "prove to all people that the Holocaust did NOT happen to the unfortunate Jews alone." Fr. Szarnicki may be contacted at 2600 Morange Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15205 or by calling (412) 920-6321.
