St. Mary's Preparatory

Off to the Capitol

The dynamic dramatic duo of senior Clarence Dass (left) and junior Jeff George led a 10-person St. Mary's Prep contingent to the national forensics finals in Washington, D.C., over the Memorial Day weekend, where Headmaster Jim Glowacki reported that the St. Mary's squad reached the second round for "our best showing in nationals ever." Dass and George dominated the state forensics and debate championships by winning the dramatic duo competition. The other national finalists were another dramatic duo team of sophomores Anthony Alexander and Sean Windey, sophomore Stephen Brooks (dramatic interpretation), junior Chasen Cunitz (Lincoln-Douglas debate), sophomore Casey Kehoe (oral interpretation), senior Derek Larson (extemporaneous speech), senior Christopher Simon (dramatic interpretation) and sophomore Nick Tootalian (declamation). Their faculty advisors include Debate/Speech teacher Cheryl Gazley and coaches Scott Sanborn and Armenia Howard.
