Rev. James K.
Mazurek, a 26-year member of the Orchard Lake Schools administration,
has been named the Vice Chancellor of the Schools. The announcement
of his appointment was made by Chancellor Fr. Timothy Whalen.
Fr. Mazurek, 55, a native of Pittsburgh, has been involved in various
areas of development such as annual giving, permanent endowment, alumni
relations and special events since 1978, two years after his appointment
to the faculty by Bishop Vincent Leonard, ordinary of the Diocese
of Pittsburgh. He was named assistant to the Chancellor for Development
in 1994.
Fr. Mazurek, a 1969 graduate of St. Mary's College, has served as
the secretary-general of the Orchard Lake Schools Board of Regents
since 1979.
Among other campus responsibilities, Fr. Mazurek has also served as
Dean of Men for the Preparatory, director of campus liturgy, director
of campus vocations, and spiritual director at the Seminary. In 1984-85,
he chaired the Schools' year-long centennial celebration.
He studied theology at St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, Pa., from where
he graduated in 1973 with a Master of Divinity degree. He was ordained
that year for the Pittsburgh Diocese. He served three years as an
associate pastor of St. Michael's Church, Butler, Pa., before coming
to Orchard Lake.
Since 1981, Fr. Mazurek has assisted weekends at St. Fabian Parish,
Farmington Hills. Prior to that, he also helped weekends at SS. Peter
and Paul Parish and St. Louis the King Parish in Detroit.
His mother Rose and married sister, Deborah Uram, live in Pittsburgh.
